  Favour Olusola  The University of Lagos, (UNILAG), has today, released COVID-19 safety guidelines ahead of its 51st convocation ceremonies slated to hold between 30th June and 8th July 2021.  The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Ademola Adeleke in a statement circulated to students on various social platforms stated that while the convocation ceremonies will maintain the COVID-19 prevention protocols, they would not be “devoid of glamour”.   In line with the government’s direction on social gatherings, the statement reads that there will be no “parties and use of canopies within the University campus”. It further states that while Parents/Guardians and the General Public are invited, access to the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium is strictly by invitation. According to him, the Unilag ZEV which was inaugurated by the University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe in 2018, is "a 63 per cent hardware and 100 per cent software home-made (Akoka content) mechatronics automobile device".   Abimbola Adelakun The University of Lagos (UNILAG), yesterday, announced the commencement of the second jab of the COVID-19 vaccination programme for its staff and students. The Acting Director of the school’s Medical Centre, Dr. (Mrs) O. O. Coker, in a statement on the school’s website, instructed that recipients of the first dosage should receive the second jab at the university medical centre. As part of management’s efforts to ensure the school is COVID free, the vaccine will complement non-pharmaceutical measures in place  The website reads in part, “the second dose of the Vaccine will boost the immunity of all recipients against COVID-19 and provide full protection against the dreaded disease.” The vaccination which would be administered in two batches is slated to hold between Wednesday 23rd of June and Friday 2nd July 2021 by the Lagos state ministry of health. Mr. Godwin Emefiele Leye Abiola The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mr. Godwin Emefiele is billed to deliver the 51st convocation lecture of the University of Lagos. The university management made this known yesterday in a release of the line up of activities for the convocation ceremony set to hold between June 30th - July 8th. The convocation lecture, titled, “National development and knowledge economy in the digital age: leapfrogging SME’s into the 21st century” will be delivered by the CBN governor on the third day of the convocation ceremonies at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium. According to the release, a press conference that will herald the convocation has been slated to hold on Wednesday June 30.   Seyifunmi Soremekun    The Chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, University of Lagos (UNILAG) branch, Mr Olusola Showunmi, has dismissed as false reports alleging that the association may embark on strike over a Federal Government directive on Staff Schools. His statement came on the heels of reports in the media that the Budget Office on Monday issued a circular directing that teachers in Staff Schools should be removed from the Consolidated Salary Scale, CONTISS, in the 2022 budget. Mr Showunmi told UNILAG SUN in an interview that the news is still regarded as a rumour because the Federal Government has not sent a circular about the staff schools being delisted.  He said there is an agreement which states that the "staff school still remains with us, and any attempt to breach that will not be welcomed, although none has been made". Their dismissal was contained in a statement issued by the University’s management on Wednesday, june 2, 2021.
