The University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, is set to hold its 51st convocation ceremonies for the 2018/2019 session that was suspended a year ago.
The University Management, in a press briefing confirmed that the ceremony would hold from July 5 to July 8, 2021, at the J.F. Ade-Ajayi Auditorium.
The University's Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, in a statement empathized with the graduating students who have had to wait this long to convoke.
"You all recall that on Monday, March 2, 2020, we gathered in this chamber to commence activities for the 51st Convocation Ceremonies of the University scheduled then to hold from March 9 to 12, 2020, but as it turned out, the ceremonies were cancelled as a result of the personal interest of some individuals.
"This event represented a dark moment in the history of our
University, but it was also an opportunity for us to learn new lessons on how
to strengthen our institutions and processes."
Ogundipe who addressed the issue that resulted in the cancellation of the convocation said that cancellation cost the University a lot financially, emotionally, and materially. He however assured that the University Management is on a noble mission to restoring the University to the path of peace and ground-breaking progress.
